Yummy Yummy

Happy Birthday to me!
Last week i turned 28 and i spent the days leading up to the big day creating yummy treats inspired by Amy Atlas. Her delicious dessert tables are so gorgeous you can't help but drool just looking at her pictures. Hopefully people will feel the same about my desserts even though they're made out of felt =)
These scrumptious delights will hit Olive Farm on Etsy soon so keep posted!!
High Tea anyone?

Pink is divine!

Creative Spaces

Yesterday my darling hubby and i spent our day cleaning the entire house to prepare for Chinese New Year. This ritual act is formed by millions around the world who try to rid their homes of bad fortune in hope of it being replaced by good fortune for the New Year. This is all new to me as I'm not Chinese however Eddee is and i wasn't about to pass up on him volunteering to clean the house..

i is smart y'all! love

So i figured i would take advantage of the cleanliness and take photos of my studio which is basically the study however calling it my studio gives me a sense that I'm working in a creative space not just the other room.

i like putting lil bits & pieces in comparments

i hang most of my creations on this lovely tree from Ikea which everyone has!

the awesome chair i got for my bday from friends

OMG! Rain in Summer!... Has the world gone mad?

yes this moment was so profound that i actually had to document it.

Just moments ago i had to run from the computer to take the clothes off the line in fear of them getting soaked... yes ppl, it's raining in summer!
I'm now starring out of my window with a 'what the hell' look wondering if God is feeling sorry for us Perthians who went through a terrible heat wave last week and is now rewarding us with some much needed coolness.
Seriously, it became so bad for me and hubby that we actually dragged the heavy mattress from our bedroom into the living room (the land where air flows) and pegged sheets to the curtains as a way to stop the wicked sun from reminding us it was summer. Basically we built a cave... a warm one! Grrr! *reminder - we don't live in air conditioning comfort*
We've also been living on a diet of cool drinks with about 15 blocks of ice in the glass and junk, since it's too hot to cook anything! waaaaahhhh!!

I'm thrilled at the idea that tonight i might actually get to sleep with a blanket, well at least a thin one and my poor hubby can actually sleep in peace, he tosses about when it's too hot. And lets not forget, when livvy is at a comfy temperature she tends to get creative, something she's been avoiding for some days now. Poor Olive Farm =(
Okies people im off to make some tea... *shrieks* OOooohhh maybe a milo!!

Taking off the blinders

I am a HUGE fan of the movies. I may not know much about the actors, director, producers or any of the other important people to hold great dinner conversations but i know what i like and what i don't.

I enjoy movies that pull at heart strings which ultimately always results in me crying silently in the cinema with tears running down my face as i quietly try to wipe the liters of snot that always accompany it. charming, i know. It just feels soooo good getting that ache in my chest when the lead actors finally find each other against all odds.

'PREDICTABLE!' i hear you snort but yeah i know, i know i like it. There's something about the 'happily-ever-after' that the big softie in me can't resist. However i have a confession to make - I generally avoid films that have a too confronting plot line (unless completely necessary such as Fahrenheit 911 and Schindler's List) but only because my weak girly heart cant take it. I know i previously spoke of the ache but i was referring to the good kind, not the bad. I'm a self confessed wuss and sometimes when i remember bad scenes from movies it still makes me all weepy and gives me nightmares. I have a copy of 'The Pianist' that i refuse to watch because my sisters told me it was the saddest movie ever.

Watching Slumdog Millionaire was an eye opener. In the 2 or so hours i sat there in the cinema, I had my hand permanently attached to my chest. It felt like my heart was on a roller coaster of extreme highs and lows. It was just. too. much! It was beautifully painful. Sure the two leads find love but what about the rest? It's hard to ignore the backdrop of India, where the movie is filmed and who can forget the faces of all those children?

Strangely the director ended the movie on what he probably thought was a high note by allowing the cast to break into a dance routine similar to the other Indian musicals we're used to. It was almost like they were saying 'yeahhhh we live in extreme poverty that makes us do ungodly things but watch me bust a move', say whaaaaa?

I recommend everyone of mature age watch this movie and take a moment to value the precious surroundings they're living in.... from the smallest detail of clean drinking water to all our unnecessary splurges and hell yeah im thinking bout my shoes.

How can we make the world a better place when we shield ourselves from the truth?

Go watch the movie, trust me.

Well hellllooooooo there

This was on the front cover of etsy today and i just squealed with girliness. Made from silk dupioni, this absolutely gorgeous yellow mustard & grey headpiece is created by Thatiana from House Of Telsa.
Isn't it simply devine? I'm not 100% sure if the chick in the pic is also the designer but as she appears in a lot of the photos i'm assuming she is. She wears it well and i feel should we ever meet we would become the best(est) friends *huge grin*
I love that you can dress it up with an equally stunning cocktail dress or simply wear it with a plain white singlet and jeans, lets not forget the killer heels & clutch *wink*
With my 28th birthday slowly creepy towards me (actually it's like 3 weeks away but its around this time i give my friends and family daily reminders haha) i figured i might as well save them the strife and make up a birthday wish list =)
i mean, it's the least i can do hahaha
